Courses in Irish are offered in both the BEd Primary and BA Liberal Arts degrees. The courses are designed to afford students the opportunity
- to acquire full fluency in spoken Irish and accuracy in written Irish.
- to develop an appreciation of the Irish language, its literature and its attendant cultural heritage.
- for BEd students, learn to teach Irish effectively at both primary and post-primary levels and in Irish-medium education. Oral practice, fieldwork weeks and periods of residence in Irish-speaking areas form an integral part of the course. BEd students have the option of taking substantial elements of the course through three modules designed to support the needs of the developing area of Irish-medium education.
