LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Increase the linguistic quality and level of fluency of the individual (student) teacher’s own Irish language competence. Develop the professional knowledge, understanding and skills of the individual (student) teacher, pertaining to his/her specialist subject/discipline Increase the understanding of the individual (student) teacher of the philosophical, methodological and pedagogical aspects of Irish Medium Education.
PRINCIPLES OF THE PARTNERSHIP
That the students be supported throughout and that collegiality is promoted among the group. Provide an effective means of communication to maintain contact with and between students to ensure they do not become isolated. The most effective ways of developing competence in IME are employed.
ELEMENTS OF THE COURSE

TERM ONE

Irish language course in the Gaeltacht, IME orientation course, IM Primary school observation placement, workshops on the fundamentals of learning and teaching in IM Post Primary Education, and online support from course coordinator

TERM TWO

Face to face meetings in February to support student placements in Irish Medium Post Primary settings, workshops on learning and teaching, and online support from the course coordinator.

TERM THREE

Irish Medium school placement with visits from supervisors, a Gaeltacht-based Field Course, a week of workshops on learning and teaching, and online support
