The Global Dimension in Education Project at St Mary's has come a long way over the past three years. A reference guide entitled "The Global Dimension in Initial Teacher Education" will be launched at an event taking place on Thursday 26th June 2008.
Staff and students from the College will be joined by key stakeholders and many of the organisations who have been involved with the Project from the outset, to reflect on the lessons learned.>
The Global Dimension guide has been created to assist those involved in embedding Global Dimension concepts into teacher education. The guide features various aspects of the Project including college-wide activities, local and global links, development of undergraduate and Master's level courses and the certification process through the online facility. It shares the College's experience on how to effectively incorporate education related to values and attitudes, social justice, diversity, interdependence, global citizenship, sustainable development and conflict resolution in to teaching and learning. This is timely as the Global Dimension is now a core element of the revised NI curriculum.
The event will also provide the opportunity to present findings from empirical research conducted to evaluate the impact of the Global Dimension Project on St Mary's students and to examine attitudes, knowledge and interest in the Global Dimension for children at various Key Stages.
More details of this event will be circulated closer to the time.
