Footloose the musical hits St Mary's University College for one of Northern Ireland's first Amateur Productions.
Just released for performance by amateur dramatic groups Footloose dances into St Mary's University College for one week only from Monday 14th — Thursday 17th December performed by St Mary's Performing Arts Society. Featuring a cast of university students this fast-paced show is full of fantastic dancing and unforgettable 80s anthems including 'Holding Out for a Hero', 'Almost Paradise', 'Let's Hear It for the Boy' and of course the title track 'Footloose'.
Based on the popular 80s dance movie starring Kevin Bacon, the musical Footloose is a classic tale of teenage angst. It closely follows the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford about Ren, a free-spirited charismatic young man and his mother, as they move from Chicago to small-town Beaumont. Though he tries hard to fit in, the streetwise Ren can't quite believe he's living in a place where popular music and dancing are banned. Ariel, the beautiful rebellious daughter of the local minister, comes to his aid, despite her jealous boyfriend and strict father who has taken on responsibility for keeping the town dance-free. With Ariel's help Ren has the courage to take on the town council, and sets about arranging a dance.
Classic hit songs from the 80s by Bonnie Tyler, Kenny Loggins, Shalamar, Denise Williams and Foreigner amongst others are set to action with energetic dance routines choreographed by St Mary's Student, Jessica Breen.
A vibrant cast of 35 performers bring the script to life under the direction of Alisha Doherty and a ten-piece band under Musical Director Owen McColgan bring to life the energetic score.
Footloose is fun-loving, humorous and moving, as well as being a reminder to celebrate life and live for the moment.
Footloose performs at St Mary's University College Assembly Hall on the Falls Road from Monday 14th December — Thursday 17th December at 7.30pm. There will be no performance on Wednesday 16th December.
