St Mary's 1-9 UUJ 0-10
St Mary's got off to a winning start in the Ryan Cup – Division 1 of the All-Ireland Senior Football League. Played in perfect conditions at St Paul's GAC Shaws Road, the team was led from the front by captain Shaun O'Neill who controlled the play from the back. A hard fought game where Tim Harney pulled off a penalty save with 5 minutes left. A strong first half performance by St Mary's which was the basis for the win.
Team Manager Paddy Tally said, "These are very valuable points in the context of the Ryan Cup. A new team with nine changes from last year's Sigerson cup team, which is great to see. It took a big effort to get St Mary's over the line today but fair play to the team and the subs who came on. They showed great desire to win today and deserved their victory."
St Mary's scores:
Michael Stephenson 1-3
Benny Herron 0-3
Kevin Mossey 0-2
Peter Harte and John Gilmore 0-1 each.
