College students to get 'oodles' of business experience!

The 'My Wok Rules' competition is funded by Belfast City Council and the European Regional Development Fund, under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland. The initiative will give students the chance to take on, for one day, all aspects of managing and operating the popular 'Oodles for Noodles' eaterie on the city`s Botanic Avenue.

All entrants will be invited to attend a series of `bite size` seminars on all aspects of running a business, and share the experiences of real life entrepreneurs. Members of the St Mary's University College team are studying on the BA (Hons) Liberal Arts degree programme. Sixteen teams entered the competition which included representation from Belfast Metropolitan College, Queen's University, University of Ulster, and St Mary's University College. Each team had the opportunity to make their 'pitch' to a panel of experts, at which four finalists had to be nominated.

Many congratulations to the team from St Mary's University College! Under the name 'Ranch Fusion' they have been selected as one of the four finalists.

The team comprises Liberal Arts students Armelle Lefebure, Darragh Graham, Aodhan McBride and Melissa O'Hanlon.

The four finalists will now have the chance to run 'Oodles for Noodles' for one day in February, taking responsibility for all aspects of the business, from ordering supplies, to marketing, to customer service. All profits from each day's trading will be donated to the Ulster Cancer Foundation, with the winning team deemed to be the one raising the most money.

We hope that the students, staff and friends of St Mary's University College might provide their support at 'Oodles for Noodles', Botanic Avenue, Belfast, on the day in February 2011 managed by the St Mary's team 'Ranch Fusion'.

The date in February will be published on the website.
