St Mary's University College Students’ Union recently held a lunch in its refurbished Student Centre for representatives from all the College's Clubs and Societies, in recognition of their contribution to the life and ethos of St Mary's.
Professor Peter Finn, Principal of St Mary's, praised the work of the Clubs and Societies in developing leadership and organisational skills among students. He also drew attention to the excellent new sporting and recreation facilities which have been provided to students of St Mary's, and urged clubs and societies to use these resources to raise the benchmark for future endeavours.
Speaking at the event, Students' Union Deputy President, Eamonn Walls, said:
"I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work and commitment this year. Here in St Mary's we are very proud of our community spirit; we like to think that there is something here for everyone. Our Clubs and Societies are vehicles of this ethos, inviting students to participate and feel a sense of belonging in St Mary’s".
Tribute was paid to PE Technician Mr Gavin McGeehan, a University of Ulster student who has been on placement in the College for the year. Mr McGeehan has successfully coached the Ladies GFC to a McNally Cup victory.
Eamonn Walls said:
"In addition to being an excellent servant of Ladies GAA in the College, Gavin has also been a friend and supporter of all students. He will be missed in the next academic year".
