Joe Costello, TD and Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, launched the book, Teacher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa: Closer Perspectives (edited by Dr Rosarii Griffin), at the Development Studies Association of Ireland annual conference hosted by Dublin City University.
The minister gave the book a glowing review and shared with delegates that he was confident that the book would be a seminal text on cognate HEI courses for years to come. Dr Rosarii Griffin went on to acknowledge the role played by partner institutes, including St Mary’s, on the Centre for Global Development through Education (CGDE) steering committee, which oversaw much of the research presented throughout the book.
Rosarii also thanked the contributors for their scholarly and informed work including Dr Louise Long and Mr Paddy Bradley. Rosarii paid a moving tribute to the life and work of the late Florence Aguti: mother, friend, fellow researcher, member of the CGDE steering committee and junior commissioner for primary education at the Ministry of Education and Sports in Uganda. The proceeds from the sale of the book that day went towards a fund for the continued education of Florence’s three surviving children.
