‘Teaching the Teachers’- Developing STEM Skills for the Future

Pupils from St Michael’s Primary School, Ravenhill Road, Belfast, and St Paul’s Primary School, Mica Drive, Belfast, are pictured at the launch of the Sentinus ‘Smart Technology’ Programme for 2014, which was held at St Mary’s University College.

The pupils were joined at their work table by the three speakers at the launch: Mr Jim Stewart, CBE, Chairperson of Sentinus; Professor Peter Finn, College Principal; and Mr Sean Rodgers, MLA, who is a member of the Education Committee at the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The ‘Smart Technology’ programme will engage approximately 90 student teachers working with pupils and teachers from 75 primary schools throughout Northern Ireland. It is a partnership involving Sentinus with St Mary’s, Stranmillis University College and the University of Ulster.

Below are Bill Connor, CEO of Sentinus; Professor Peter Finn, College Principal; Sean Rodgers, MLA; Jim Stewart, CBE; and Kieran McGeown, Course Team Leader for the Technology and Design Department at St Mary’s.
