Over two hundred people attended from across the College's departments, offices and student body. It was also attended by Michael’s friends and family.
The College staff and student team played against Michael’s own amateur soccer team, Intermore, which also included Michael’s two sons. The event began with a one-minute silence, and the match was started with Michael’s wife, Cathy, throwing in the ball.
The College team put on a strong performance and were only narrowly beaten by Intermore, who were presented with the Michael Ellis Cup at a reception held after the event. During the reception, Michael’s friends, family and colleagues reflected upon and celebrated Michael’s time spent working in the College and playing football for a number of local clubs.
Furthermore, the event raised £580 for the Children's Hospice. Michael's family expressed their thanks to all involved in this memorable tribute to Mickey.
