Cancer Awareness Day

24 November 2014

On Tuesday, 18th November, members from the St Mary’s Students’ Union organised a fun-filled fundraising day to raise money for Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness.

The first event that took place was a leg wax in the ‘Green Room’. Five students from the College volunteered to take part, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Niall Kelly, Peter Carragher, Ronan McCloskey, Conor Little and Patrick McBride for their participation. There was also a bun sale held in the Students’ Union, which consisted of homemade bakes and cakes, and we would also like to express our gratitude to those who helped prepare all of the treats.

In the afternoon, we were extremely lucky to have Action Cancer deliver a two-hour workshop on testing for students’ body composition and for early signs of cancer as well as showing students a variety of self-check methods. In the evening time, we organised a ladies' and men’s night, which was an extremely successful end to a brilliant day.

Finally, we would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff and students who offered their help throughout the day and who donated so generously to both charities.  Altogether a total of £580 was raised.
