HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION IN A POST-CONFLICT SOCIETY

St Mary’s University College Belfast
Friday, 6th March 2015

St Mary’s University College Belfast, with support from the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council, hosted a CPD workshop for teachers and student teachers on human rights education in a post-conflict society. The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on the importance of human rights education to the development of peace and justice in a divided society. Participants explored and debated issues such as flags and parades, commemoration, dealing with the past and the right to culture. The workshop also examined international perspectives on human rights education. Workshop sessions were delivered by Kellie Turtle (Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission) and Dr Birgit Schippers (St Mary’s University College Belfast).
