First-year students of Physical Education on the Liberal Arts Programme, along with their lecturer Elaine McLaughlin, Students’ Union Vice President, Mairead Conwell, and special guests Ruairi Wilson, Enya Doherty and Laura McKeever, recently organised a “Day of Dance” at Broadbridge Primary School in Eglinton, Co Derry.
St Mary’s students took the time to plan an extra-special day of dance for the children. The day was split into thirty-minute slots with the 450 pupils divided into groups and rotated to different classrooms to be entertained with dance routines.
At the end of the day, all children within the school had sampled a range of dances including gumboot, ceili, pop, cheerleading, animals, line dancing, “Frozen”, war, hokey/lubin and cha cha.
The energy and enthusiasm that the students demonstrated throughout the length of an entire day was outstanding. The principal and staff within the school praised the students for their tremendous effort, and even the teachers all managed to take part in the classes.
To complete the day, all staff and children gathered in the playground and performed “Frozen” and “Uptown Funk”.
