INTO Conference 2016

St Mary’s was well represented at the Annual Northern Conference of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) in Templepatrick on 4-5 March 2016.



Bridgeen Campbell (Students’ Union President), Aidan Forker (Students’ Union Vice-President) as well as Student Council Member, Simon Lam, attended the debates and discussions which took place around the public session motions. The College Principal, Professor Peter Finn, also attended for seven public motions on:

- SEN provision in schools
- The pay claim
- ETI inspection
- Withdrawal of the English Exam Board at GCSE level
- Unregulated transfer tests
- Limited broadband in rural areas and
- Subsuming of schools.

St Mary’s enjoys a very strong connection with the INTO. Most of the Union’s leadership and a large proportion of the membership are alumni of the College. INTO works closely with the Students’ Union on a range of educational matters which impact on student teachers.




Mr Mark McTaggart is an alumnus of St Mary's and during the 2015-16 academic year is the
INTO Northern Committee Representative for the North Eastern Area
