Emerging Technology & Human Rights

26 October 2018

College lecturer, Dr Birgit Schippers, was interviewed on the local TV station NVTV on her latest research project on emerging technologies and the threats they pose to human rights.

In the interview, Dr Schippers discusses how developments in fields such as artificial intelligence and robotics impact on our rights. As Birgit explains, there is a real worry that the capabilities of artificial intelligence will undermine existing human rights protection; furthermore, current domestic legislation and international obligations are not equipped sufficiently to deal with the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Birgit has already disseminated some of this research on "The Conversation" blog and in a podcast with Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s "Future Tense" programme.
