In a captivating display of the rich and vibrant culture within the college, the St Mary’s Traditional Irish Music Society proudly presented the Pipers’ Recital on the 9th of November 2023 to honour International Uilleann Piping Day, featuring renowned uilleann pipers such as Conor Mallon, Peter McKenna, and Jane Walls.
Through the efforts of dedicated committee members, Ciara Wilson and Rosie McElroy, the society was able to host this memorable event, showcasing the talents of students, as well as fostering an environment where students and community members alike can come together to enjoy traditional Irish music.
Conor Mallon, from County Armagh, is described as leading the next generation of pipers. Conor played various tunes from his debut album ‘Unearthed’, which was released earlier this year. Conor brought us into the depths of a new sound world in his use of pipes tuned to both D and C, embodying the true diversity of the instrument.
BEd Primary students, Peter McKenna, and Jane Walls are no strangers to the stage. Representing our society, Peter and Jane have 11 All Ireland titles between them and have performed in various prestigious locations. Both musicians brought a mix of traditional and modern sets to our audience, which was received by endless praise and admiration from staff and members of the public.
