On Wednesday 29th November, the College was proud to host the launch of the exhibition ‘Albert Street – So Much a Part of Us’, focusing on Albert Street Presbyterian Church, which stood in the area from 1847 to 1971.
Rev. David Moore, a Presbyterian Minister, was responsible for bringing the exhibition to our campus and St Mary’s was proud and honoured to have the chance to host this particular exhibition of photography and other historical evidence in our Irish Medium foyer.
The exhibition told some aspects of the story of a Presbyterian congregation which existed in the Lower Falls area for over a century. When the Church closed, those who worshipped there did not want to leave, but circumstances gave them no choice.
Over the years, the story has been forgotten by many on both sides of the community, but the Church was very much part of the life of the area and this exhibition not only paid homage to those who came before us, but also served as a reminder that we all share the spaces in which we live, work and pray in today’s world.
