Zambian AID Director visits St Mary's University College

25 January 2006

Mrs Angela Miyanda is the former Deputy First Lady of Zambia. She is the Director of Angels in Development (AID) in Lusaka, which works with Aids orphans from the compounds in that region.

Her most involved initiative is an Orphanage for 90 children in Lusaka which provides medical support, education and accommodation, along with all that is needed to support these vulnerable children. She is also a key partner in the building of the Community School in Old Kabweza in the bush outside Lusaka. This project includes building a (borehole) water system, school rooms, accommodation and medical facilities for the children and local community.

She is currently in the College to participate in the ‘Global Dimension in Education' Conference on 26th January, and also to finalise details of a joint St Mary's College, Irish Government, and AID project for the accommodation and medical centre at Kabweza.

Angela will be available on Thursday 26 January at the Conference for pictures, etc.
