Patty Guziejka from Lowell Public Schools Massachusetts, accompanied by her husband Mark, paid a visit to the College today to meet with Mr. Gerry Trainor and the students who participated in this year's Wider Horizons Programme.
Wider Horizons which is now in its eighteenth year is a project organised jointly by four Colleges of Education - St. Mary's, Stranmillis, St. Patrick's Drumcondra and Church of Ireland Dublin, through Middlesex Community College, Massachusetts in conjunction with Lowell Public Schools.
The four students from St Mary's who participated in this year's programme along with nine others from the other Irish colleges were Kevin Campbell, Aveen Hagan, Michelle Harkin, and Eimear O'Hare. The students worked in multi-cultural teaching placements with educationally disadvantaged children, teenagers or adults.
Patty who has been involved with the project for ten years was pleased to meet the students in St Mary's having heard so much about the College over the years. Mr Peter Finn the Acting Principal expressed his thanks to Patty and Lowell Public Schools for their work with the students over the past eighteen years.
Mr Trainor the College co-ordinator of the programme is hopeful that the programme which is open to BEd3 students will run again in 2007.
