The celebrated and popular Irish poet Dennis O'Driscoll will visit the English Department on Thursday 1st February. He will give a reading to students and staff in Lecture Theatre 2 at 11 am.
Dennis O'Driscoll has published numerous collections of poetry, a book of critical prose, a forthcoming book of stories for children, as well as an extended interview with Seamus Heaney which will appear in book form.
His awards include a Lannan Literary Award in 1999, the 2005 E.M. Forster Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the 2006 O'Shaughnessy Award for Poetry.
Fourth-year English student Hugh Meenagh, who met Dennis O'Driscoll at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota during his year in the United States as part of BEI and who is now basing his dissertation on his poetry, has taken the lead role in all the arrangements.
