The Higher Education senior football league game between Queen’s and St Mary’s held at the DUB on 13 October had the distinction of being the first in which the mark rule was trialled ahead of its expected introduction in January 2017.
St Mary’s Tyrone player Cathal McShane had the honour of being the first player in Ulster to claim a mark under the new rules. St Mary’s lost the game by one point (3-9 v 0-14) but defeated Queen’s in both the Freshers’ game (by eight points) and the Intermediate (by one point). |
