St Mary’s University College was pleased to contribute to the third international conference with the title Language, Identity and Education in Multilingual Contexts (LIEMC) organised by MultiLingNet and held at the Marino Institute of Education, Dublin, 1—3 February 2018.
The conference attracted scholars from higher education institutions around the world who have keen interests in multilingualism and multilingual education. Over the course of three days, delegates reported on their current and recent research—spanning linguistics, sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics—at an inspiring forum for new learning for teachers and teacher educators. Findings from collaborative research were presented by Dr Seán Ó Cathalláin (Mary Immaculate College), Dr Pádraig Ó Duibhir (Dublin City University) and Dr Gabrielle Nig Uidhir (St Mary’s University College). Dr Maguire co-presented a paper entitled “Identity Construction and Use of Irish as the Mother Tongue among Immersion Pupils”.
