St Mary’s University College was very pleased to welcome the Vice-Chancellor of Queens University, Professor Ian Greer, to the west Belfast campus. The Vice-Chancellor met with both local and international students as well as members of the academic and support staff. He took the opportunity to ring the College bell, which is a tradition at St Mary’s, to inform the community that a VIP is on campus. During the course of a walking tour, he was able to see the extensive refurbishments which have taken place on campus in recent years including the redevelopment at the Beechmount Avenue entrance. Professor Greer was informed of St Mary’s specialist academic provision in teacher education and liberal arts as well as its distinctiveness, manifest in a Catholic educational identity, promotion of the Irish language, Irish-medium education and an extensive programme of community engagement. He said he was particularly pleased to meet up with members of the Students' Union Executive, who presented him with an All-Ireland winning camogie jersey.
