Teacher Education tutors from St Mary's University College joined colleagues from all over Ireland at the annual SCoTENs conference in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan from 6-18 October, 2019.

Dr Gabrielle Nig Uidhir chaired some of the parallel sessions in the programme and provided researchers and educators with the opportunity to share their work with peers from Higher Education Institutions and schools throughout Ireland. Jonathan Worley gave a presentation on his innovative work in a local post-primary school, where he used the approaches developed in St Mary's Writing Centre, along with his team of peer tutors from the St Mary's student body, to address some issues relating to the revised A Level English specifications.

The conference was opened by Dr Noel Purdy from Stranmillis University College, a co-chair of the SCoTENs committee. Delegates enjoyed the keynote addresses by Professor Paul Miller, University of Greenwich and Professor Marilyn Cochran-Smith, Boston College. A lively debate was led by a panel of experts and insightful comments were tweeted throughout the two-day programme.
