MSc in Physical Education & Sport for Young People

 

Course Structure

The course is designed to allow students to gain professional working experience while studying. Classes will be held on Wednesdays to Fridays.


The structure followed by a full-time student will normally be:

  • 1 x 30 credit module to be taken in semester 1 (September – October):

MPE5001: Leadership & Professional development in PE & Sport working with and for Young People

 

  • 2 x 30 credit modules in semester 1 (October – January)

Select two from

MPE5003: PE & Sport & the Social Sciences

MPE5004: Cognitive Development & Pedagogy through PE & Sport

MPE5005: Psychology: Culture, Coaching and Young People


  • 1 x 30 credit module in semester 2 (January – February):

MPE5002: Research Methods in PE & Sport working with and for Young People

 

  • 1 x 60 credit module to be taken between February and June:

MPE5006: Consultancy Based Project to improve the lives of children and young people through sport

MPE5007:Academic Research Paper

How will you be taught and when?

 

Teaching:

You are taught one module at a time in blocks, with time set aside for assessment periods. Modules are comprised of interactive workshops, lectures, seminars, fieldwork, and practical activities. Practicals are focused on developing subject specific skills and applied individual and group project work.

 

Contact Time:

Classes will be held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. A 30-credit module equates to 30 hours of contact time. 

 

Duration:

1 academic year full time


Teaching Staff:

Students will be taught by a teaching team whose expertise and knowledge are closely matched to the content of the modules on the course. There will also be a range of expert guest lecturers to enhance students’ skills.

Assessment:

The course has been designed to include authentic assessments which enhance employability and entrepreneurial skills.

Assessment methods include a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, case studies, presentations, and practicals.

There are no examinations.
