Teacher Mobility - Gdansk, Poland

23 November 2007

Niall Coll, Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies, spoke at a two-day conference on 'Tolerance and Education' at the University of Gdansk in Poland in mid-November. The conference was organized by the University's Pedagogic Institute and it drew on speakers from many countries: Belarus, Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, Holland, Ireland, Israel, Poland and the United States etc. The main aim of the conference was to discuss how education can play an important role in recognizing and addressing causes of conflict. There was a particular interest in the causes and consequences of genocide policies in Nazi Europe and, more recently, in Rwanda. Niall Coll spoke about the contribution of the Christian Churches to the ongoing Peace Process in Northern Ireland.
