Dr Gerard McCann spent a week in May on a lecturer exchange at the Universitat Paderborn in Germany. He was hosted by the Department of Geography and the Department of Economics and worked with Dr. Georg Romhild and Professor Frank while there. As well as giving a number of lectures in the fields of regional development and education policy, Dr McCann also gave a University Guest Lecture on 'The European Union's Commitment to Regional Development in the North of Ireland'. While there he also spent time visiting local environmental and cultural industries. Dr Gerard McCann was also a delegate to the 2006 Mediterranean University Forum from 8-10 June 2006. The Forum was putting together partnerships from across the European Union, but was looking specifically to link up institutions from the new and established member states of the European Union.
