Liberal Arts at St Mary's

Liberal Arts at St Mary's

While working towards a BA (Hons) Liberal Arts degree with a focus on History, Nathan completed two periods of his placement with Business in the Community Northern Ireland (BITC) in 2014 and 2015. When in BITC he was assigned to Human Resources (HR). He worked under the guidance of Ms Melanie Doherty, the HR Executive who supported the work of the Operations Director, Ms Patricia O'Rourke.

Business in the Community Northern Ireland (www.bitcni.org.uk) stands for responsible business. Set up in Northern Ireland in 1989, they now have over 260 members and are the largest business-led coalition dedicated to corporate responsibility. They are part of a UK-wide organization with over 850 members who have the unique ability to convene senior business leaders to tackle key social issues and use their skills and resources as a force for good. BITC also have a sister organization in Dublin which enables them to engage effectively with businesses that have an all-Ireland perspective.

The role of the organization has evolved over the years in line with changes in society and with the issues facing their members. Member organizations are encouraged to engage, individually, to address their own business priorities in a responsible way while at the same time using their skills and resources to benefit society and the environment by working together through collective business action.
